Namakkal district was created by bifurcating the erstwhile
Salem district and created in 1997. The Geographical area
of the district is 34,29,671 hectares, which is divided into
4 taluks, namely Namakkal, Paramathi, Tiruchengode and Rasipuram.
Of these, Namakkal, the district headquarters has the most
extensive coverage of 1,767,75 sq.kms.
The district boundaries are :
East : Perambalur & Salem Districts.
West : Erode District
North : Salem District
South : Karur District.
